Chelsea are ready to make a £35million bid for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain this summer.

The Sun are reporting that the Argentina international is Roman Abramovich’s top transfer priority once the season ends and the Stamford Bridge owner is ready to pay big money for him.

The Blues have had a disappointing season in the league and may have to win the Champions League to qualify for the tournament next year and the report claims Abramovich sees the 24-year-old as the man to fire them to the top if the Premier League.

“Higuain is top of the shopping list,” the report quotes a Chelsea insider as saying.

“He has a phenomenal goalscoring record for Real and for Argentina but he helps make lots of goals too.

“He would be perfect for us, the sort of player who would thrive in the Premier League.”

Higuain’s arrival is also reportedly a consequence of the expected departure of Didier Drogba when his current deal runs out at the end of the season.

It also claims the La Liga side would be willing to do a deal as manager Jose Moruinho wants to sign Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero and the departure of Higuain would create extra space and funds.
