Berbatov: I must leave United

Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov has said he must leave Old Trafford this summer to play first-team football.

The Bulgarian frontman has started just five league games this season and admits he has become "frustrated" with his lack of opportunities. Berbatov had a fantastic season in 2010/11, scoring 20 league goals and playing a key role in United's Premier League winning campaign.

However, despite assurances from Sir Alex Ferguson regarding his first-team place, Berbatov has found himself on the bench for much of this season.

Speaking to The Sun, Berbatov said: "My time at Manchester United is running out. I no longer feel like a valuable part of this team. It's obvious that I have to leave."

The former Bayer Leverkusen striker has found himself well down the Old Trafford pecking order, with Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck moving in front of the Bulgarian in the battle for a starting place.

However, Berbatov has insisted he will not risk the ire of the United fans by moving to rivals Manchester City.

"I'm looking for a new place now," said Berbatov. "I know I can still play at the highest level. I would never join Man City, I am a loyal person after all."

Berbatov joined United for £30m in 2008 from Tottenham Hotspur and has won two Premier League titles and a League Cup in his time at Manchester United.
