Charlie Adam is doing everything he can to ensure he is fully fit and raring to go ahead of the new season, as he looks to impress Liverpool's new manager, despite his identity remaining a mystery.

A number of high-profile managers have been linked with the vacancy, which became available following the dismissal of Anfield legend Kenny Dalglish.

A poor performance in the Premier League, with results particularly disappointing at home, saw the Reds stumble to an 8th placed finish.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez remains the red hot favourite to take charge at Liverpool, but whatever happens, Adam is sure that whoever takes the helm will be a worthy candidate.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, Adam said: "Whoever comes in will be a top manager who is used to working with top players. It's one of the best jobs in English football so it will be very attractive to a lot of people.

"We're one of the best clubs in the world and I feel extremely fortunate to be at Liverpool."

Adam suffered an injury to his knee back in March, as Liverpool succumbed to a QPR fightback which saw the Reds surrender a two-goal lead, as they fell on the wrong side of a 3-2 scoreline at Loftus Road.

That injury curtailed Adam's involvement in the remainder of Liverpool's season, although the Scotland international is now well and truly on the road to recovery, and he cannot wait for his second season on Merseyside to get underway.

"I was back working at Liverpool last week. I'll be all geared up and trying to impress the new manager," said Adam.

That injury meant that the set-piece specialist was forced to watch from the sidelines as his teammates made two trips to Wembley through the FA Cup.

And whilst Adam struggles to hide his frustration at not being able to play a part in Liverpool's cup exploits, the 26-year-old midfielder understands that his priority is ensuring he makes a full recovery ahead of the new campaign.

"The most important thing is just getting back on the pitch and playing again.

"I missed eight weeks towards the end of the season and the Cup final. I couldn't help the lads when they needed it. So I need to be fully fit to show the new man what I can do."
