Rodgers is new Liverpool manager

Brendan Rodgers is set to be unveiled as the new Liverpool manager after agreeing a three-year deal, with the deal expected to be confirmed in the next 24 hours.

BBC Sport are reporting that the Anfield club will pay Swansea City, his current employers, a compensation package worth between £4million and £5million to get his signature.

Rodgers was last night installed as favourite to replace Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish, who was sacked from the post two weeks ago following a disappointing Premier League campaign where the Reds could only finish as high as eighth.

The Northern Irishman has been receiving high praise for taking the Welsh club from the Championship to the Premier League on a small budget.

Rodgers was also admired for the way in which his side played, sticking stubbornly to a short passing game and comfortable securing an 11th place finish in the club’s first season in the Premier League.

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez was also in the running for the job, travelling out to Miami to meet Liverpool co-owner John W Henry, but the report claims Rodgers was the preferred candidate all along.

The 39-year-old initially rejected the opportunity to speak with Fenway Sports Group, not wanting to be part of a beauty parade, but they American owners have since changed tact and the deal was finalised today.
