Arsenal slap £30m price-tag on RVP

Arsenal have slapped a £30million price tag on star striker Robin van Persie, reports the Daily Mirror.

The 28-year-old Dutch international crashed out of the European Championships with the Netherlands last night, after they lost their third consecutive match in group B, following a 2-1 defeat against Portugal at the Metalist Stadium in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

Having been offered a bumper new three-year deal to remain at the Emirates Stadium, with wages believed to be in the region of £130,000-a-week, the Gunners skipper is yet to agree a new contract.

Van Persie would become the highest paid player in the north London club's history, with a £5million signing on fee also on offer to commit his long-term future to Arsenal.

However, club chairman Peter Hill-Wood has already admitted that negotiations would be pointless, as Arsenal could go no higher than that. If a club were to offer their leading marksman £250,000-a-week, then they would simply not be able to compete.

Manchester City and Juventus are believed to be leading the list of interested parties, while Paris Saint Germain are also keeping tabs on developments.

If nobody matches Van Persie's valuation, then Arsene Wenger will be happy to keep his club captain for the remainder of his contract, allowing his existing deal to run down until June 2013, and allowing the Holland hit-man to walk away on a free transfer next summer.
