Gareth Bale could commit to Spurs for another season despite a lack of Champions League football, according to a source close to the player.

The revelation comes after weeks of speculation surrounding the Welshman’s future, with top clubs in England and abroad interested in adding the 22-year-old to their ranks.

A question mark hands over the former Southampton starlet following Harry Redknapp’s shock departure from White Hart Lane less than a fortnight ago, but it would appear that Bale is willing to listen to the plans of the chairman before making a decision on his future.

“Gareth believes Tottenham were unlucky not to get into the Champions League after finishing fourth and is happy to stay at the club for now,” the source told The Sunday Mirror.

“The chairman obviously has plans that did not involve Harry Redknapp and Gareth wants to find out what those are.”

Bale is contracted to the north London outfit until 2015, although the Daily Mail claims Daniel Levy is ready to offer the player a lucrative new long-term contract as reward for his fine form over the past two years.

The player is certainly doing his bit to follow the Tottenham Hotspur line at least, talking up the importance of getting off to a good start against Newcastle on the opening day of the Premier League season.

“It’s important to get off to a good start. It will be difficult, especially away from home, but it’s a good early test for us,” he said.
