Tottenham Hotspur are in battle with Liverpool for the signature of Gylfi Sigurdsson, according to reports.

The Daily Mail claims Spurs have already been in direct contact with the player, citing a report in The Sunday Express that suggests a contract offer has already been placed in-front of the Icelandic international.

It’s claimed that a ‘better package’ has been offered by the White Hart Lane outfit, despite new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers appearing to be the front-runner in the race to sign the Hoffenheim star this summer.

Sigurdsson played under the Northern Irishman at Swansea City last season, moving to the Liberty Stadium on loan at the turn of the year and impressing for the Premier League newcomers.

Following Rodgers’ move to Liverpool, it was thought that the 22-year-old would follow his former boss to Anfield, but now Tottenham appear to have thrown a spanner in the works with their swoop for the player.
