Former England defender Ledley King has retired from professional football but will remain at Tottenham in an ambassadorial role, the club have announced.

The 31-year-old, who was capped 21 times by England, has been plagued by injuries throughout his career.

He made his Spurs debut against Liverpool in 1999 and captained them to League Cup success in 2008.
