Didier Drogba came off the bench to make his Shanghai Shenhua debut - and set up the equalising goal for his new side.

Sergio Batista's team found themselves 1-0 down after Guangzhou took a first-half lead through a Moises own goal. But the former-Chelsea striker was summoned from the bench at half-time, and slipped through a delightful through-ball to allow Cao Yunding to score the leveller.

Drogba had almost scored with his very first touch, when he fired a swerving free-kick on goal. The Guangzhou keeper did well to beat the effort away, denying Drogba a dream introduction to his new Chinese fans.

The Ivorian, who signed a two and a half year deal with Shanghai, will need a fast start, as his new Chinese team find themselves languishing near the foot of the Chinese Super League table.

With just four wins from their opening 17 games, Shanghai will be hopeful that their talismanic striker will inspire them to improved performances.

With striker partner, and former-Chelsea teammate Nicolas Anelka alongside him up-front, Drogba should flourish in China, and the Ivorian will happy to have made a strong start in the latest chapter to his career.
