Southampton manager Nigel Adkins was coy about the prospective signing of Gaston Ramirez but admitted the move would speak volumes of the club's ambition.
The 21-year-old Uruguayan has been the subject of speculation this summer after impressing in Serie A with Bologna. Inter Milan, Liverpool and Tottenham were mooted as potential destinations for Ramirez, although Press Association Sport understands a move to the Premier League new boys could be completed this weekend.
It is understood that Saints have agreed a fee with Bologna for the winger - reported to be £11.8million - and Ramirez has revealed he is close to penning a four-year deal at St Mary's.
