Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will reportedly ask the club's owners to do whatever it takes to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo, should the Portuguese be serious about wanting to leave Real Madrid.

Ronaldo's future at the Santiago Bernabeu would appear to be in real doubt after the 27-year-old revealed he is unhappy at the club, and reports suggesting he was informed president Florentino Perez of his desire to quit Madrid.

Ronaldo left Manchester United for Real Madrid in the summer of 2009, joining Los Blancos for a world record fee of £80 million.

It would surely take an even greater sum to convince Real part company with their prized asset, and Ferguson is hoping to take advantage of Ronaldo's current situation.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Ferguson is desperate to secure an Old Trafford return for Ronaldo, and will tell Manchester United's owners to break the bank to capture the Portugal international.

Ronaldo spent six years as a United player, scoring 118 goals in 292 appearances for the 19-time title winners.
