Defender Richard Dunne has been placed only on standby for the Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifiers against Germany and the Faroe Islands next month.

The 33-year-old Aston Villa man missed Ireland's opening victory in Kazakhstan earlier this month as he recovered from a groin injury, but had hoped to be fit for the October double-header and remains extremely doubtful.

Manchester United winger Robbie Brady, who made such an impact in the friendly against Oman four days later, is also on standby but there are returns from suspension and injury respectively for Keith Andrews and Keith Fahey in the continued absence of Darron Gibson, although no places for David Meyler, Joey O'Brien or Alex Pearce.
