West Ham manager Sam Allardyce welcomed Andy Carroll's international call-up as the perfect solution for both club and country.
Carroll has been named in the England squad to play San Marino and Poland, despite a hamstring injury limiting him to just one start for the Hammers this season.
Allardyce believes a stint with England will improve Carroll's match fitness - providing Roy Hodgson takes good care of him. He said: "I am glad (he has been called up). Going off to England because he is short on match fitness would be a good thing for us and a good thing for him."
