Robin van Persie believes the Football Association made the right decision not to ban him for the alleged elbow on Yohan Cabaye in Manchester United's weekend defeat of Newcastle

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew highlighted the incident after the game on Sunday - which United won 3-0 at St James' Park - and suggested the FA should look into it.

The Manchester United striker, however, escaped sanction after referee Howard Webb decided against pursuing a charge having reviewed the video footage of the incident.

And, unsurprisingly, Van Persie says the FA have made the right decision. He told voetbal.nl: "I agree with the union."

Van Persie, then, will be available for Manchester United's next Premier League outing with after the international break against Stoke at Old Trafford on October 20.

The 29-year-old has enjoyed a fine start to his career as a Manchester United, having scored seven goals in nine games since joining the club from Arsenal for a transfer fee of £24 million.
