Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has reportedly dismissed the idea of making a bid for Daniel Sturridge in January, but will instead attempt to secure the services of the Chelsea striker on loan.

The acquisition of goalscoring reinforcements in the transfer window is seemingly a must for Liverpool, and Sturridge has been frequently linked with a New Year move away from Chelsea.

According to The Mirror, Chelsea want £20 million for Sturridge, but Liverpool will instead approach the Stamford Bridge club with a loan proposal for the 23-year-old England international.

Sturridge reportedly rejected the opportunity to join Liverpool on loan during the summer transfer window, but may be more receptive to a move to Anfield in January given his lack of action for Chelsea this term.

The former Manchester City forward has made only one Premier League appearance for Chelsea so far this season, and his chances would significantly increase were he to move to Liverpool.

Luis Suarez is the only senior goalscorer available to Liverpool manager Rodgers at the moment, while £10 million summer signing Fabio Borini is sidelined with a broken foot.

The departures of Dirk Kuyt and Andy Carroll during the summer have left Liverpool dangerously light up top, and the signing of Sturridge would go some way to relieving the burden on Suarez.
