Chelsea legend Didier Drogba will reportedly stay with Shanghai Shenhua, despite another weekend of uncertainty surrounding his future with the Chinese club.

Drogba moved to Shanghai in the summer following the expiration of his Chelsea contract, having spent eight years at Stamford Bridge, during which time the Ivorian scored 157 goals in 341 appearances.

The 34-year-old has, however, faced an uncertain time since leaving Chelsea, with Drogba having consistently been linked with a move back to the Premier League during the summer transfer window.

This speculation owed to reports of unpaid wages in Shanghai due to threats over the removal of financial backing from chairman Zhu Jun if he was not afforded more control of the club.

According to Goal.com, further reports emerged over the weekend that Drogba had told a friend that his time with Shanghai Shenhua was coming to an end, while speculation increased when the former Chelsea star was omitted from the squad for the encounter with Changchun Yatai.

Nicolas Anelka, a former teammate of Drogba at Chelsea, was also left out by manager Sergio Batista, although it was later confirmed that both had been injured.

It has since been reported in the Chinese press that Drogba has no intention of leaving Shenhua, and the Chelsea Champions League winner is happy in Shanghai.
