Arsenal are reported to be considering a move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka during the January transfer window, while Manchester United have also been linked with the Swiss youngster.

Xhaka was frequently linked as a target for Arsenal and Manchester United during the summer, but Monchengladbach beat the Premier League duo to his signature when the 20-year-old joined from Basel.

But, according to Blick, Arsenal are ready to reignite the interest they had previously shown in Xhaka, and launch a move for the Switzerland international only six months after he joined Borussia Monchengladbach.

Arsene Wenger is reported to be after another creative midfielder to improve his Arsenal squad, even though the Emirates Stadium club already boast the likes of Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta in that department.

Whether, like his Arsenal counterpart, Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson decides to revive his interest in Xhaka remains to be seen, but the Red Devils could do with reinforcements in midfield.

Manchester United have still yet to sign a long-term successor to Old Trafford legend Paul Scholes, who is set to retire again at the end of the season, although much is hoped of academy product Tom Cleverley.
