Manchester United and Manchester City go head-to-head in another huge derby match on Monday, and if recent history is anything to go on, it's sure to be a cracker.
Overhead kicks, last minute winners, missed penalties - the England international has a habit of getting involved when it matters against City, and it almost always works out well for the Red Devils when that happens.
With kick-off getting ever closer, GiveMeFootball decided to look back on Rooney's key contributions and great moments in Manchester derbies ahead of the Old Trafford clash. And, with a 15-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, a big contribution could help Sir Alex Ferguson's side secure the title.
Don't forget to leave us your thoughts below, and let us know if we missed out your favourite...
1) Manchester United 2-1 Manchester City
Premier League; 12th February 2011
Voted the goal of the Premier League era by football fans, Rooney produced an outrageous overhead kick to win a keenly fought derby match at Old Trafford.
Luis Nani put United ahead on 41 minutes, but Spanish schemer David Silva equalised to put the match in the balance.
Cue Rooney’s moment of genius, swivelling to meet the Portuguese winger’s cross and smashing the ball past a helpless Joe Hart.
2) Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United
FA Cup Third Round; 8th January 2012
Rooney struck twice in a thrilling 3-2 FA Cup win at the Etihad Stadium, taking advantage of Vincet Kompany’s red card to progress to the fourth round.
The England striker opened the scoring with a tenth minute header, and then followed up his own penalty miss to make it 3-0 after Danny Welbeck struck after half an hour.
Aleksandar Kolarov and Sergio Aguero had given the hosts hope of an unlikely turnaround, but it was United’s day.
3) Manchester United 3-1 Manchester City
League Cup semi-final, second leg; 27th January 2010
In a battle of two strikers, it was Rooney who won the day over Carlos Tevez, scoring a 92nd minute winner to break Citizens hearts at Old Trafford again.
Rooney had missed a great chance to kill off the game whilst at 2-0, but made no mistake with a close range header in injury-time to avoid extra-time.
Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick had given United the advantage before Tevez struck in the 76th minute.
4) Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United
Premier League; 9th December 2012
A quite extraordinary game at the Etihad Stadium, as Robin Van Persie's last minute free-kick secure all three points against the champions.
However, it was a first-half double from Rooney which sent the Red Devils on their way, with the England striker wrong-footing compatriot Joe Hart for the opener before arriving perfectly to double the advantage from a low Rafael cross.
Goals from Yaya Toure and Pablo Zabaleta brought the Citizens back into contention for an unlikely draw, but Van Persie had the last word before Rio Ferdinand was struck by a coin in the celebrations.
5) Manchester City 0-1 Manchester United
Premier League; 30th November 2008
Rooney’s 100th goal in domestic club football came at the perfect time for the Red Devils, following-up a Michael Carrick effort to win a game that saw Cristiano Ronaldo get sent-off.
United would go on to win the Premier League title, beating Liverpool by four points, whilst City ended the campaign in a respectable 10th place.
