Ellis: Don´t let Barry go on the cheap

Former Aston Villa chairman Doug Ellis believes Liverpool should have to pay up to £20 million if they want to sign midfielder Gareth Barry.

Villa have already rejected three offers for the England midfielder and, although it seems inevitable that 27-year-old will leave for Anfield, Ellis insists current owner Randy Lerner must strike a hard bargain.

Ellis, who was at the helm when Villa paid Brighton £500,000 for Barry, said: "If Gareth goes, and I fear he will as Steven Gerrard has been begging him to do so, then right now I wouldn´t sell him for less than £15million."
