One of Harry Redknapp’s first tasks as QPR manager could be fighting off Manchester United advances for playmaker Adel Taarabt.

Sir Alex Ferguson was impressed with the Morroccan in his side’s 3-1 win over the struggling London club at Old Trafford on Saturday and is considering him as a replacement for Nani or Ashley Young, according to The Sun.

Taarabt played under Redknapp at Tottenham Hotspur, but did not make the grade and was let go, but it appears his resurgence with QPR has attracted the attention of Manchester United.

The report claims Ferguson is ready to offload Nani and has lost faith in Young’s ability to produce his best form on a regular basis, so he is considering a January transfer window bid for Taarabt.

The 23-year-old has scored some spectacular goals this season, though he only produces his best inconsistently.

It also says Ferguson recognises this fact, but believes he can get the best out Taarabt with some time to work with him.

Redknapp, meanwhile, may be tempted to cash in on a player he decided was not good enough at Spurs and he may feel the Moroccan is unsuited to the long battle to avoid relegation that QPR now face.
