Sheffield United plc chairman Kevin McCabe has revealed Bryan Robson turned down the role of director of football because the fans were against him.
The former England captain, 51, left the Coca-Cola Championship club on Thursday after nine unsuccessful months as manager which saw the United faithful turn on him resulting in protests at Bramall Lane last weekend.
McCabe told Sky Sports News: "Were it not for a small percentage of our fans making life pretty intolerable for Bryan Robson I was hoping Bryan would stay on board with us as our head of football but it´s not to be."
