Fernando Torres came to Liverpool´s rescue as he smashed home a superb equaliser to deny Middlesbrough a Barclays Premier League victory, 1-1 the final score.

The Spaniard blasted a 71st-minute drive past Mark Schwarzer from 25 yards to clinch a fourth successive draw for the Reds on an afternoon when his side were second best for long periods.

Boro skipper George Boateng had given the home side a 26th-minute lead with his first goal of the season, and Stewart Downing hit the post before Torres left his mark on the game.
