Danny Smith was the hero and Luke Rodgers the villain as non-league Chasetown reached the FA Cup third round with a last-gasp 1-0 win over Port Vale.

Having held the Coca-Cola League One strugglers to a shock 1-1 draw, Tuesday night´s replay saw the British Gas League Midland Division part-timers complete the upset, thanks to Smith´s 89th-minute header and a double penalty miss from Rodgers.

The Vale striker twice had the ball on the spot within seven second-half minutes, firstly when Vaughan Thomas brought down Calum Willock. That effort hit the crossbar but Rodgers soon had the chance to make amends when he was felled by Joe Williams. This time he was denied by goalkeeper Lee Evans. Smith made Rodgers pay when he nodded in to set up a third-round home clash with Cardiff.
