Manchester United and Real Madrid look set to lose out on highly-rated transfer target Lucas Digne, after the young French defender signed a new contract with Lille.
According to talkSPORT, both Manchester United and Real Madrid have been pursuing Digne this season, but Lille have been able to secure the 19-year-old on improved terms.
Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly scouted Digne extensively this term, but the Manchester United boss will now have to look elsewhere for a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra.
Digne is regarded as one the best young full-backs in Europe, and the French teenager has the potential to eventually succeed Evra at Manchester United and for his country.
The left-back, however, is now contracted to Lille until 2017, and Manchester United may now be encouraged to pursue Everton star Leighton Baines, who has been frequently linked with a transfer to Old Trafford.
It was claimed by the Daily Mail in November that Manchester United are considering a £15 million approach for the 27-year-old England international.
