Liverpool have reportedly joined Tottenham in pursuit of Inter Milan star Wesley Sneijder, and the Reds have already made a bid for the Netherlands international.

The future of Sneijder with Inter Milan is in doubt after he rejected the suggestion of a pay cut and now, reports Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool have contacted the Italian giants.

Liverpool have reportedly tabled an offer of £9.5 million in the hope bringing Sneijder to Anfield during the January transfer window, as Brendan Rodgers scours the market for reinforcements.

Spurs had been the favourites to sign the 28-year-old playmaker, although manager Andre Villas-Boas has since cooled suggestions that Sneijder could be on his way to White Hart Lane.

Liverpool, then, appear to be leading the race for the former Real Madrid man, although meeting Sneijder's wage demands would seemingly go against the strategy of the club's owners.

Sneijder currently earns £200,000-per-week at the San Siro, and Liverpool boss Rodgers was tasked last summer with reducing the club's wage bill.
