Chelsea are reportedly in pole position to land Newcastle striker Demba Ba next month and, in the Senegal international, the Blues will be acquiring statistically the most important goalscorer in the Premier League.
Ba has contributed exactly 50 percent of Newcastle's league goals so far this season - 13 of 26 - to establish himself as the top-flight's most inspirational goal-getter in 2012/13.
The 27-year-old has almost double the amount of Chelsea's top scorer Fernando Torres (seven) although the Blues have, of course, relied on a greater range of players to find the net this term.
Manchester United star Robin van Persie heads Ba in the goalscoring charts, but the Dutchman has only accounted for 28 percent of the goals notched by Red Devils players this season.
Like Ba, Swansea forward Michu also has 13 goals to his name, and only the former has been more important than the Spaniard this so far this season.
Tottenham, meanwhile, have the combination of Jermain Defoe and Gareth Bale to thank for over half of their Premier League strikes, while newly-promoted Southampton would be in even more trouble were not for Rickie Lambert.
Also among the league's most important strikers are Luis Suarez of Liverpool, who has 11 goals this season, although the Reds may enjoy a greater spread following the January transfer of Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge.
Marouane Fellaini's importance to Everton is outlined with 25 percent of their goals, while Arsenal will be loath to lose Theo Walcott if he continues to have such an impact at the Emirates Stadium.
