The most visible figure from the era of Dutch total football, Cruyff won the Ballon d’Or three times; in 1971, 1973 and 1974. The first two were following his great Ajax side winning the European Cup and the last was after he shone at World Cup ’74 in Germany, though was a losing finalist.
