Wesley Sneijder would reportedly be receptive to talks with Liverpool, as the Anfield club prepare to test how serious the Inter Milan star is about taking a significant pay cut.

Sneijder looks set to leave Inter Milan before the January transfer deadline, and had appeared set to join Galatasaray after the Turkish giants agreed a fee of £6.3 million for his signature.

But, according to the Liverpool Daily Post, Sneijder is reluctant to move from Milan to Istanbul and would be ready to speak to Liverpool should Brendan Rodgers formalise his interest.

Liverpool, however, are only willing to sign Sneijder if he agrees to a lower salary than he earns at the San Siro, with the 28-year-old Dutch playmaker raking in a massive £6.5 million-a-year after tax.

The departures of Alberto Aquilani, Nuri Sahin and Joe Cole have made available more funds for wages, but Liverpool will still need Sneijder to reduce his demands if he is to move to Anfield.

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group have been keen to cut wages since their arrival but would reportedly be willing to make an exception for Sneijder, if the price is right.
