Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich made a desperate attempt to re-sign Didier Drogba this month, but the Stamford Bridge legend snubbed his offer.

According to The Sun, the Blues billionaire owner made an embarrassing U-turn on his summer decision that the Ivory Coast captain was not worth a new deal, which was an admission that Fernando Torres has been a £50million failure.

Drogba is now set to join Turkish side Galatasaray after reports emerged on Sunday that he was close to agreeing an 18-month deal with them.

The report in The Sun claims Abramovich has lost patience with Torres and offered Drogba a six-month contract with the option of a further year.

The 34-year-old is leaving Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua after just six months of his £250,000-a-week, two-and-a-half-year deal.

Shenhua’s other big name signing, another former Chelsea star, Nicolas Anelka, also looks set to leave after agreeing a deal to join up with Serie A champions Juventus.

Drogba was key in Chelsea completing an FA Cup and UEFA Champions League double last season, scoring crucial goals in both finals.
