Arsenal are set to miss out on a deadline day deal for defender Fernando Amorebieta.
Goal.com claims the Gunners’ late push to bring the Venezuelan to the Emirates Stadium has fallen through, with the Athletic Bilbao centre back set to stay in Spain until the end of the season.
The same website reported yesterday that Arsene Wenger had set his sights on the 27-year-old, with the Frenchman eager to shore up his defence before the window slams shut.
Arsenal’s fragilities were exposed on Wednesday evening during a 2-2 draw with Liverpool, and injury to Kieran Gibbs has put further pressure on the north London outfit to try and strengthen in the final hours of today (Thursday).
But, whilst Nacho Monreal appears to be on his way to the club from Malaga, Arsenal look set to miss out on the eight-cap international from the Basque region.
Amorebieta has been with Bilbao throughout his career, and made over 200 appearances in all competitions for the club since making debuting back in 2005.
His experience and physique would have certainly strengthened the Arsenal back line, but it appears that Wenger has missed out on this particular La Liga player.
