West Bromwich Albion midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu was back in training today, building his fitness after an early return from the African Cup of Nations.

The Congolese international started every game for his country in South Africa during the tournament, but three draws was not enough for Claude Le Roy's side to progress to the knockout stages from Group B.

Instead, the 26-year-old returned to the Midlands ahead of this weekend's clash against Tottenham Hotspur, but failed to recover from a knee injury in time to represent the Baggies in their Premier League clash.

One of the few players to be in training today, Mulumbu was put through his paces alongside Peter Odemwingie, with the Nigerian forward in isolation after his transfer deadline day disaster.

However, Mulumbu insists he's now spoken with the Nigerian international, and understands the circumstances that led to the forward driving to QPR in an effort to secure a move away from the Hawthorns.

"I had a good training session with Pete and great chat after that, now I understand what happened and we'll be back soon," he wrote on his official Facebook page.

The former Paris Saint-Germain starlet has a week to try and recover from his problem, ahead of next Monday's clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
