Manchester City build title hope with FA Cup win over Leeds

Roberto Mancini wants Manchester City’s 4-0 victory over Leeds United to act as the catalyst in a final bid to retain their Premier League crown.

City currently trail local rivals Manchester United by 12 points, and have just 12 games to overhaul that deficit and retain the title.

With only two points from their previous three Premier League games, Mancini saw his side take a step in the right direction after a comfortable victory in the FA Cup against the Whites.

“In Italy, you say a game like this is like brodino soup, a started," Mancini is quoted as saying in The Telegraph.

“I hope it can help us to start to win in the Premier League.”

Another positive Mancini will take from the victory over Leeds was the goals from his Argentinian strikers. Sergio Aguero bagged himself a brace and Carlos Tevez was also able to get on the score sheet at the Etihad Stadium.

Mancini has been critical of his forwards of late and with the recent departure of the controversial Italian Mario Balotelli, Mancini will know his strikers must return to top form if his side are to mount a serious late charge for the title.

City will now look to gain three points against third-placed Chelsea on Sunday to really ignite their bid to retain the trophy.

Aguero recognises the importance of the Chelsea game, and told the club's official website: "It will be a good match, difficult, but obviously we need to go out and win. We need to continue like this.”

It’s certain that City have a much greater chance of defeating Chelsea if Aguero is able to continue the form he showed in their FA Cup victory.
