Manchester United’s chances of signing Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria have taken a blow after Paris St Germain joined the race.

A report in the Express claims Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to take the Argentina international to Old Trafford but the spending power of the Ligue 1 leaders could scupper these plans.

It also references reports in Spain saying los Blancos boss Jose Mourinho has run out of patience with the 25-year-old after numerous run-ins and Manchester United could be waiting to exploit this.

Current Old Trafford winger Nani has been linked with a move away from the Premier League leaders after contract extension talks stalled and the reported interest in Di Maria could be connected with this.

Although, Ashley Young has had an indifferent season so far and the Manchester United boss could be concerned about the creativity coming from the wings.

However, any United plans to secure Di Maria’s signing will be threatened by the involvement of PSG.

The Qatar-backed club have such considerable spending power that a bidding war is likely to end with only one winner.
