Best XI: Left vs Right

This is neither a dream team nor an all-star team, but uniquely two teams who may find an answer to the age old question: are right-footed players better or are left-footed players superior?

As full-backs are the biggest problem with choosing such a side I have chosen the teams based on a 3-5-2 system. But do you agree? Get in touch and let us know.

Left XI:

Goalkeeper: Iker Casillas | Real Madrid

Spain and Real Madrid captain faces strong competition from Petr Cech but his unparalleled record and experience makes him impossible to leave out.

Centre-back: Giorgio Chiellini | Juventus

The Italian international is without a doubt one of the world's finest defenders having starred for Italy at Euro 2012 and in the Bianconerri's unbeaten run to Scudetto success last season.

Centre-back: Holger Badstuber | Bayern Munich

The Bayern Munich youth product has rapidly improved over the last couple of years to announce himself as one of the world's foremost central defenders having cemented his place in the team for club and country amidst strong competition.

Centre-back: Jan Vertonghan | Tottenham

The former Ajax man has impressed in his first season at White Hart Lane having settled in seamlessly. He is part of a golden generation of players from Belgium alongside star defenders Thomas Vermaelen and Vincent Kompany.

Centre-midfield: Gareth Barry | Manchester City

Entrusted with shielding the defence in this team, the former Aston Villa star is an unheralded star who is 'Mr. Reliable' in the centre of the park with his intelligent reading of the game and fine distribution forming a well rounded midfielder.

Centre-midfield: David Silva | Manchester City 

The silk alongside the steel of Barry, the Spaniard is one of the most gifted playmakers on the planet whose metronomical ball use and incisive passing making him the man most likely to unlock with tightest of defences.

Left wing: Gareth Bale | Tottenham

The Spurs superstar has reached new levels of consistency and brilliance this season having proved to be a genuine match winner on too many occasions to mention. His blistering pace and pin point distribution as well as his ability to score spectacular clutch goals, makes him one of the world's best players today.

Attacking midfield: Juan Mata | Chelsea

The little magician has been at his spell-bounding best this season having scored and assisted for fun. His superb vision and spotless technique makes him a incredibly dangerous player around the box as a trequartista.

Right wing: Angel Di Maria | Real Madrid

The Argentine has been hampered by injuries and a loss of form in recent times but there is no denying at his best Di Maria is an absolute weapon to have on either flank with his excellent crossing, speed and ability to cut in and score from distance making him an outstanding all round wide man.

Striker: Lionel Messi | Barcelona

The Barcelona talisman could play just about anywhere in midfield or in attack but up front his ability to drop deep and burst through defences at pace and then teeing up teammates or scoring himself has proven to be as efficient and successful as just about any player in any era.

Striker: Robin van Persie | Manchester United

The Dutchman has continued on from where he left off at Arsenal as he maintains his fantastic scoring record that has effectively sealed the Premier League title for Manchester United. His trickery, guile and goals have been an integral part of the Red Devil's outstanding form this season

Right XI:

Goalkeeper: Manuel Neuer | Bayern Munich

The Germany shot stopper is perhaps the best goalkeeper in the world right now based on form having been impeccable between the posts this season for Bayern Munich having conceded just a meagre 8 goals. 

Centre-back: Sergio Ramos | Real Madrid

The former Sevilla man has successfully transitioned into a central defensive role in recent times for club and country. His combination of power, pace and aerial prowess makes him the complete package at the back.

Centre-back: Vincent Kompany | Manchester City

The Belgian colossus is a rock for club and country and has legitimate claims to be considered the best central defender in the world.

Centre-back: Thiago Silva | Paris Saint-Germain

The former AC Milan star has not been hampered by his huge price tag as he has continued to maintain his excellence for PSG to reaffirm his status as one of the finest defenders in the world.

Centre-midfield: Bastian Schweinsteiger | Bayern Munich

The German superstar is one of the most complete midfielders in the world with an abundance of qualities which makes him a competent player defensively and offensively.

Centre-midfield: Yaya Toure | Manchester City

Look no further than the former Barcelona man if you wanted a one man midfield. His physical presence, strength, finesse and stamina makes him the complete package in midfield.

Right wing: Cristiano Ronaldo | Real Madrid

The Los Blancos superstar has been at his brilliant best again this season whilst he continues to rewrite the history books. The pace, flair and quality finishing we have all come to associate Ronaldo with makes him an indispensable player.

Attacking midfield: Andres Iniesta | Barcelona

His ability to slice open defensives with his imaginative and intuitive passing as well as his nimble dribbling which allows him to wriggle through the tightest of defences, makes the Spanish star the perfect man to be the fulcrum of the midfield.

Left wing: Marco Reus | Borussia Dortmund

The former Monchengladbach man has been in superb form for Dortmund this season utilising his searing pace and clinical finishing to torment teams. 

Striker: Zlatan Ibrahimovic | Paris Saint-Germain

There is perhaps no striker in the world that is better when Ibra is at his best with his freakish ball control and dribbling for a man his size coupled with his strength and clinical finishing makes the Swedish superstar the complete forward.

Striker: Luis Suarez | Liverpool

The Reds' star has taken his game to a whole new level this season scoring for fun while continuing to weave his magic to enthral fans.

 They are two absolutely brilliant teams, but the question remains who would win?
