The agent of Manchester United striker Federico Macheda has played down talk of a move to former club Lazio.

According to a report from talkSPORT, the Old Trafford flop was open to joining the Serie A club where he started his career and they were keen on bringing him back.

However, this has now been put in doubt following quotes from the striker’s agent.

“For the moment there is not that possibility. He is fine in Germany, the club are very pleased,” Giovanni Bia told Italian website TuttoMercatoWeb.

"Lazio is the club where he grew he up and they would like him to come home, but it all depends on Stuttgart, who have the option to buy him at the end of the season.”

Sir Alex Ferguson gave him his chance to shine at Manchester United in 2009 and he promised great things with an incredible last-gasp winner in a Premier League match with Aston Villa.

However, Macheda failed to capitalise on this chance and drifted back to the fringes of the Manchester United squad.

Loan spells at Sampdoria and QPR were deemed failures and he returned to Old Trafford with his top flight future in the balance.

The Bundesliga outfit gave him a get out option in January by taking him on loan where he will be hoping to secure a deal or a move elsewhere as his Manchester United career almost certainly looks to be over.
