Reading director of football Nick Hammond has revealed the club have held transfer talks with Wolves and refused to deny that Joleon Lescott was the topic of conversation.

The Premiership-bound Royals last week reportedly had a club record bid of £4.5million rejected for the defender. Reading are yet to strengthen their squad following promotion to the top flight for the first time in their 135-year history, and Hammond remains coy over the possibility of Lescott becoming the first new arrival at the Madejski Stadium this summer.

"I have spoken with a number of clubs regarding the possibility of doing business, one of which was Wolves," Hammond told PA Sport. "But the conversations I have had with [Wolves chief executive] Jez Moxey have been nothing more than general enquiries."
