Italy have suffered a blow ahead of Sunday´s quarter-final showdown with Spain after defender Andrea Barzagli was ruled out for the remainder of Euro 2008 with a knee injury.
The former Palermo defender, who recently completed a move to Wolfsburg, pulled up during Thursday morning´s training session and tests have revealed the 27-year-old will need an operation.
"The European Championships are over for Andrea Barzagli," confirmed the Italian Football Federation on their official website www.figc.it.
