Midfielder Xavi insists he never lost faith that Spain would make it to Euro 2008 even though they suffered a dismal start to their qualifying campaign.
Xavi scored the only goal on Wednesday night as Spain defeated Northern Ireland in Las Palmas to clinch top spot in Group F above Sweden, who they humbled 3-0 in Madrid at the weekend.
"I have been optimistic at all times. I always thought that the team would be in the European Championships and to do it in this brilliant form is good," said the midfielder, whose team have won 10 and drawn two of their 12 internationals in 2007.
