Leaders Oldham continued their fine start in Coca-Cola League One with a 2-0 victory over Milton Keynes Dons.

An eighth-minute goal from Lee Hughes got the Latics off to a flying start but it was not until Mark Allott added the second in the last minute that the points were safe. Oldham now have a three-point cushion at the top.

MK Dons had pushed the hosts all the way at Boundary Park but spurned their best chance when Mark Crossley saved Mark Wright's penalty, awarded after Sean Gregan's handball.

Second-placed Carlisle slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Scunthorpe, who moved up to third as a result.

Matthew Sparrow opened the scoring for the hosts after 62 minutes before Paul Hayes added a second. Danny Carlton pulled one back but it was too late.
