Lloyd Dyer's second-half strike gave Leicester a deserved 1-0 victory over Colchester and took them to the top of League One.

The lively midfielder broke down the left before firing a stinging shot past U's keeper Dean Gerken four minutes after half-time to seal a Foxes win at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Leicester had enjoyed the better of a closely-contested first half and Gerken was called into action twice in quick succession to deny Matty Fryatt just before half-time.

And although the U's had improved as the half wore on, the closest they came to scoring was when Mark Yeates burst into the area but fired high and wide.

Gerken also turned over Steve Howard's deflected effort and then parried Fryatt's shot from close range.

And although Yeates rattled the post with a thunderous free-kick with 10 minutes to go, the Foxes claimed victory to maintain their impressive away form.
