Barnet manager Paul Fairclough has handed Ryan Burge a contract after the youngster impressed while on trial at Underhill.

The 20-year-old midfielder had his contract with Birmingham ended by mutual consent in March without making a competitive first-team appearance with the club.

He told the club's website: "I am delighted to be given the chance to prove myself with Barnet. I just want to return to playing football again."

He spent trial periods with Hereford and home-town club Cheltenham recently and goes straight into Fairclough's plans for the FA Cup first-round clash with Rochdale.

Burge, who is comfortable on the left flank or in the centre of midfield, is pleased to have agreed terms and be given an opportunity to show his worth.
