Stockport managing director Mark Maguire has resigned his position at the cash-strapped League One club with immediate effect.

Maguire had held the post since April 2007 and helped to oversee the club`s promotion from League Two last season. However, financial difficulties this season has led to the recent departure of Jason Taylor, Gareth Owen, Jim McNulty and Anthony Pilkington.

A club statement said: "Mark Maguire has tendered his resignation and he will leave the post he has held since 2007 with immediate effect."

It continued: "The club's board of directors and the current staff will continue day-to-day duties until a permanent successor has been identified.

"Stockport County would like to thank Mark for all his hard work and wish him all the best in the future."
