FA to investigate spitting incident

The Football Association will launch an investigation into allegations that Doncaster midfielder Richie Wellens spat at Swansea`s Leon Britton.

Wellens vehemently denied the incident which is alleged to have happened during Swansea`s 3-1 win over Doncaster on Sunday.

"I did not spit in his face. I was clearing my throat and I did not aim his way," Wellens said.

The incident was not spotted by referee Scott Mathieson as it took place while Rovers' James Coppinger was being treated for concussion.

The FA have now confirmed that they will launch a full investigation into the incident, allowing both parties to submit statements before taking appropriate action.
