Substitute Max-Alain Gradal scored a stoppage-time equaliser as Leicester's top-of-the-table clash with MK Dons finished 2-2.

Gradal's late goal ensured the Foxes maintained their eight-point lead at the top, with their hopes of automatic promotion further boosted after third-placed Peterborough lost 2-1 at home to Southend.

Leicester are now 14 points clear of Posh and it would seem only a catastrophic loss of form will prevent them from bouncing back to the Coca-Cola Championship at the first time of asking.

Top scorer Matty Fryatt had put the Foxes ahead after just five minutes but Peter Leven struck either side of the break to put the hosts in front.

It looked as though Roberto Di Matteo's side would take all three points until Gradal thrashed a 20-yard free-kick into the top-left corner.

Southend came from behind to dent Peterborough's automatic promotion hopes.

Dean Keates put Posh ahead from the penalty spot after six minutes but goals from Jean Francois Christophe (25) and a Shane Blackett own goal (62) condemned them to just their third home league defeat of the season.

Leeds moved into the play-off places at Scunthorpe's expense after beating them 3-2 at Elland Road.

Iron's prolific 21-year-old striker Gary Hooper twice cancelled out goals from Jermaine Beckford and Bradley Johnson as the visitors looked set to defend their place in the table.

But just as he did on the opening day, when Leeds beat Scunthorpe 2-1, Beckford struck the winner after 69 minutes.
