Kevin Davies is hoping that last season's flirtation with relegation was a one-off for Bolton and that they can get back to former ways and be in the top half of the season. Davies scored his 100th goal against West Ham near the end of last season which secured Bolton's Premiership status.

Davies got married during the close season and is hoping that will be a good omen. Givemefootball's Lawrie Madden caught up with the Bolton striker during a Community visit at the Reebok.

Q. What is the purpose of this visit?

A. Bolton run a Football in the Community project and at this event they are coaching three and four-year-olds and the players come down to lend a hand. I and a few of the other players live in Bolton so we walk around the town and know how important the football club is to them.

Q. How seriously do the players take these events?

A. I take them very seriously. It is important to the club and important that we keep contact with the fans and this is one of the ways. All the players make visits before and during the season.

Q. How are the new faces settling in so far?

A. It was good that they were here from the first day of pre-season so that we could train together from the start. But I think the manager has improved the squad in the right areas. Last season we kept quite a lot of clean sheets but didn't score many goals so he has brought in a striker with a track record (Johan Elmander).

Q. How difficult was last season being in the relegation region?

A. It was very difficult for us. It was the first season that has happened to us because for before that we always finished in the top ten. It was difficult especially after our start when we got only five points from our first ten games.

Q. What has Gary Megson brought to the club?

A. He knows what he wants and he tells you what he wants. He has made the team very hard working, everyone knows their role and it has worked for us by going back to basics. Now the main aim is to get off to a good start. Last season we had a poor start and we know it is hard to recover from a start like that. You are under pressure from day one and playing catch-up.
