Andy Legg made up for his lack of height with a length of throw that defied belief at times.
His delivery, like
Rory Delap, long, hard and flat was a lethal weapon for his many clubs and his country, Wales, of course.
He’s been watching the
Stoke City midfielder with interest, and the Llanelli player-manager says: “It does make me giggle seeing the panic on the faces of defenders and goalkeepers when the throw is about to come in.
“But Rory has been doing that for years at
Southampton and
Derby, but because all of a sudden he is doing it in the Premier League he is getting much more coverage and publicity.
“Some of the football purists don’t like it but at the end of the day Stoke’s set-pieces were a major reason why they stayed up, and good luck to them.”
Legg, as we have previously mentioned, is still very much involved in the game of football, but he still has a place in his heart for the lower leagues in England.
“I miss the day-in, day-out involvement and the banter in the dressing room. It was my life for 18 years and it was taken away from me through no fault of my own when I was diagnosed with throat cancer.
“But I have been all clear now for four years and they say after five years it doesn’t normally comeback – so I’ve got half a chance. I would love to get back into league football in some capacity.”
