Fabio Capello has claimed a winter break would aid his England players ahead of their World Cup campaign.

Sir Alex Ferguson has long argued England should follow the lead set by Germany amongst others and stop the season for a couple of weeks. Yet the idea has never been taken on board, even though it was introduced to the Scottish game for a short time before being discarded.

"It is not my problem but it would be easier," said Capello. "It would be good for the players though. I know that when I was manager of Real Madrid, when you played against the German sides in the Champions League after a month's holiday, everyone was fresh."
