New manager Dean Saunders will be disappointed to here that his Chairman does not think Doncaster Rovers have enough fans.
John Ryan believes that the club have fewer than ten thousand fans, a number which any club - particularly one with aspirations as high as Rovers - would struggle to operate on.
Ryan said with shocking frankness that: "In real terms we've got 7,000 or 8,000 fans maximum. If I could put my club on wheels and wheel it to Sheffield I might do quite well, but the reality is that most people in Doncaster support Leeds."
"For whatever reason the public of Doncaster will not support the football club, that's a fact."
Rovers moved from their old ground, Belle Vue, to the Keepmoat Stadium in 2007. The record attendance at the Belle was 37,000 in 1947. A crowd that size has not been seen in a while, and is likely not to be seen for a long time with the Keepmoat only housing 15,000.
The founder of cosmertic surgery company Make Yourself Amazing admitted that the directors have been subsidising the club from their own purse, and that this must come to an end.
Having identified a wage bill of approximately £8 million as the main financial risk to the club, they have recruited football agent Willie McKay to get players cheaper than they would normally pay clubs in the transfer market.
McKay's achievements to date are bringing in Pascal Chimbonda and Herita Ilunga, the latter on a three-month loan from West Ham.
