Adams has been linked with Hoddle's job - but City and Wolves bosses insist 'we're going nowhere'

By Mark Shail  April 19, 2006

Coventry boss Micky Adams has distanced himself from reports linking him with a move away from the Ricoh Arena, insisting he is already making plans for an assault on the Premiership next season.

Adams has already been told by the club's board he has significant cash to reinforce his squad in the summer and the former Leicester City chief is determined to take the club to the next level.

"I'm very happy at Coventry City. I still have more than a year of my contract to run and I'm not looking to change. Myself and my team must be doing something right to attract this much attention from the media, which is flattering, but Coventry is my club and I'm already looking forward to next season here." said Adams.

During his 15 months at the club, Adams has spent just £20,000, to sign Matt Heath from Leicester, and he knows more money needs to be made available if the club are to mount a serious challenge next term.

"The board and the acting chairman believe that to challenge for promotion we need an investment in players and I think that will be the case. Don't quote me on specific figures, but there will be significant investment on the pitch, which has not been there for an awful long time," Adams added.

"What I have spent since I have been here in terms of a transfer fee is £20,000, so anything more than that I would class as a massive investment. But I want to take the club forward – it's as simple as that. We took Don Hutchinson and Dennis Wise on a short-term basis because of the injuries to key players.

"They have worked out fantastically well, but we know to challenge in the Championship we need to bring a more youthful look and we have already got some useful youngsters at the club."

The club has also responded to speculation surrounding Adams' future, with managing director Paul Fletcher saying: "We've not been approached by any club about Micky and I'm not expecting any approaches.

"I've spoken to Micky and he has no thought about moving on and simply wants to improve on this seasons fantastic progression. The club share those sentiments and I can't see why we would allow anybody to speak to Micky."

One of the jobs Adams has been linked with in recent weeks is the manager's position at Wolves where Glenn Hoddle has come under increasing pressure from fans frustrated at the way their season has fizzled out.

But, despite a six-match losing run which has seen Wolves drop out of play-off contention, Hoddle has reiterated his commitment to the club. "I've got a 12-month rolling contract," he said.

"I've seen how well we've played at times this season and I've seen how close we are to achieving what we want to achieve and getting in the play-offs. If we finished teams off we'd be in the top two, there's no doubt about it.

"We're not a long way off, but we've got to wait and see the financial implications of not having the parachute money next season. I've been asked about being the Wolves manager next season and I have said 'yes'."
