Southampton's promotion push received a boost yesterday with the loan capture of 21-year-old Tottenham midfielder Yago Falque.

The Spanish Under-21 international indeed signed a permanent deal at Spurs yesterday following a successful loan from Juventus, and Harry Redknapp has loaned him out straight away.

Saints' boss Nigel Adkins couldn't hide his excitement about Yago's move.

"He's a very exciting player and I'm pleased that we've got him on board and I think the supporters will be excited by what he can do on the pitch."

The loan deal which will last until the end of the season represents Southampton's second movement in the January transfer window, following the impending move of Japanese striker Tadanari Lee.

Yago should benefit from his spell on the South Coast after making just six appearances in both the Europa League and FA Cup for Spurs this season.

The young Spaniard possesses substantial experience of the European leagues after previous spells at Juventus and Villarreal and his creative attacking flair should suit Southampton's free-flowing style.
